Satellite Television Providers: The Best Satellite TV Deals

Ever notice there are more satellite TV deals than satellite television providers? How can there be so many different satellite TV offers when there are only two major providers? Dish Network and DirecTV are the major players in satellite TV service, yet there seems to be an entire army of satellite TV promotions, offers, and deals. Why is that?

It's almost laughable as I imagine someone googling the search engines for the cheapest satellite TV service, or best satellite TV packages, etc. All Dish Network offers say programming is 19 dollars a month, yet one offers a free home theater system, another offers money back, and still another offers a free DVD player. One begs, "buy my dish".

The same logic applies to DirecTV deal hunters. The price is always 29 dollars, but then you might see free TIVO on one offer, money back on another, and a couple are spelled wrong. I thought we were looking for DirecTV not Direct TV or DircTV! Oh, and let's not forget free satellite TV offers. I don't know about you, but I love freebies.

There are some seriously frugal folks out there chasing down the pot of gold at the end of the digital television spectrum. In high definition no doubt. There are enough satellite TV deals to keep you bouncing from web page to web page for hours! The truth of the matter is the bottom line offers don't ever change. It's true, and I'll tell you why.

This we know, there are only two satellite television providers we need to be concerned about, Dish Network and DirecTV. Both satellite television companies offer a free four room satellite TV system including the satellite dish, receivers, plus free DVR and HDTV equipment. This variable is not going to change among the satellite TV providers.

Satellite TV programming packages won't change either. Dish Network's cheapest programming package starts at about 19 dollars, while DirecTV's cheapest service starts at around 29 dollars. Both sometimes offer special rates on premium movie channels and HD programming, but the base price and programming is always constant.

The only variable that changes in these satellite TV offers is the vendor, or reseller promotions. What I mean is, while the Dish Network or DirecTV bottom line offer remains constant, the satellite TV vendor may offer something extra as an incentive for you to buy from them. This is often times a freebie or cash back offer.

There is nothing wrong with this. In fact, it is to your benefit there is so much competition out there. If you were to go directly to Dish Network or DirecTV you would get the exact same satellite TV package, minus all the goodies. If you're going to buy anyway, you want all the freebies you can get right? Take cable television for example.

When was the last time you saw a reseller for cable television offer you some money back or cool free offers just to get you to buy from their agency? Never, right? That's because they don't have to. Cable TV has you over a barrel and there is no competition. The only competition cable has is satellite TV, and they deal with that by running negative ads.

Competition is good, and you make out like a bandit! So what are the best deals in satellite TV? In the end, that is really going to be up to you, but I'll tell you what I think. Anyone who's surprised, raise your hand. OK, seriously though, here's what I know. My cable company used to charge 50 bucks a month for 60 channels. Sound about right?

Dish Network now offers satellite TV programming at 19.99 a month for 40 channels. This is the regular price, not a promotion. Local channels are 5 dollars extra. You'll end up with about 60 channels for around 25 bucks a month. according to my calculations, that's about half the price of cable. Now just tack on the freebie from your vendor of choice, and there you have it. Your best Dish Network deal.

Now let's take a look at DirecTV who currently offers 155 channels for 29.99 a month. Add 3 dollars for locals, and this is still about 17 dollars cheaper than what my cable company charges for basic service alone. Now that I think about it, my old cable company didn't even give me a DVR with that! Anyway, pick a freebie and there's your best DirecTV deal. Now I remember why I disabled the cable!

From time to time, both Dish Network and DirecTV will change their bottom line satellite TV packages. Just remember when they do, those stay the same from vendor to vendor. What changes is the promotional offer. Promotional offers are why it's better go through a vendor rather than the actual satellite television providers for the best satellite deals.

LCD vs DLPs

Two new technologies in the world of TV, DLP and LCD, are now in a stiff competition.

Some People say that there is problem of motion blur in LCD TV. It was correct before few years due to the processors in the LCD projections being slower than those in the DLP TV's. However, the sets that we are now looking at have a much faster processor in them, and therefore don't have the type of holdup or rainbow effect that the older units had. Not only that, but definitely like the picture quality is better on the LCD TV's. In fact, the LCD screen has several benefits over plasma. For instance, LCD screens run much cooler than the average plasma TV, and thus require less power to operate. Plasma TVs run so hot, in fact, that they require a fan to cool them down - which can be noisy. In addition, plasma screens have a tendency to degrade over time, slowly becoming dimmer. LCD screens, on the other hand, run relatively cool, and do not degrade over time. Some Plasma owners, who have used their TVs for a few years now, have already witnessed the dimming of their screens. Also, LCD screens tend to have overall better picture quality, and are typically 10 to 15 percent lighter than plasma

The problem with LCD TV is after given enough time, it appears that LCD panels, primarily those in the blue channel, will degrade, causing shifts in color balance and a reduction of overall contrast. The test did not include a large enough array of test units to draw any conclusions about anticipated rates of degradation under normal operating conditions

There are several unique benefits that are derived from DLP technology. One of the most obvious is small package size, a feature most relevant in the mobile presentation market. Since the DLP light engine consists of a single chip rather than three LCD panels, DLP projectors tend to be more compact. All of the current 3-pound miniprojectors on the market are DLP's. Most LCD projectors are five pounds and up.

Another DLP advantage is that it can produce higher contrast video with deeper black levels than you normally get on an LCD projector. DLP has ardent followers in the home theater world primarily due to this key advantage.

Thus due to stiff competition both LCD and DLP manufacturing companies are trying to improve the quality and are struggling for but at present DLP is having lead in it.

LCD vs. DLP TVs

Two new technologies in the world of TV, DLP and LCD, are now in a tight competition. Not long ago, everyone was talking about Plasma and LCD - which one would win? It became clear to most that Plasma, with its short lifespan of just 3-4 years, was simply not the best choice. In fact, the LCD screen has several benefits over plasma. For instance, LCD screens run much cooler than the average plasma TV, and thus require less power to operate. Plasma TVs run so hot, in fact, that they require a fan to cool them down ? which can be noisy. In addition, plasma screens have a tendency to degrade over time, slowly becoming dimmer. LCD screens, on the other hand, run relatively cool, and do not degrade over time. Some Plasma owners, who have used their TVs for a few years now, have already witnessed the dimming of their screens. Also, LCD screens tend to have overall better picture quality, and are typically 10 to 15 percent lighter than plasma.

Now the choice is mainly between LCD and DLP - two distinct technologies that offer slight differences in display, price, and performance. If you are looking to buy a new flatscreen TV this year, you are probably wondering which one is right for you.

What are DLP, LCD TV Screens?

DLP stands for Digital Light Processing, while LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. DLP technology, developed by Texas Instruments, uses a DMD, or Digital Micromirror Device, contructed of 1.3 million microscopic mirrors. Each of these mirrors is essentially a single pixel. When a digital signal enters the DLP system, each mirror is either activated or not, resulting in tapestry of mirrors tilting either towards the DLP light source or away. This process produces different levels of light and dark reflected by each individual mirror. The colors are produced when the DLP light sources run through a red, green, and blue color filter on a moving wheel. Depending on the lightness/ darkness of each mirror, the colors come in an enormous amount of shades, producing vivid color images.

LCD screens are made of several polarized glass panels, between which are liquid crystal molecules. An electric current is run through the crystal molecules, changing their position in respect to the glass. As light passes through the molecules, these changes in angle result in different lightness/ darkness patterns that produce images on the screen. There are usually three polarized glass panels, one with red pixels, blue, and green. This system also produced very accurate, vivid images, but angle is important. You may notice that the best colors in an LCD display are seen straight-on.

Is DLP, LCD TV Screens better than the other?

Simply put, that is a difficult question to answer. Unlike Plasma TV screens DLP and LCD last much are longer, and are considered to both have superior image quality. LCD screens tend to have slightly better contrast, with a larger range of black and white color shades. DLP, however, still has faster refresh rates than LCD (although LCD has been vastly improved in this area over the last two years). This can have implications if you are really into high-action motion (sports, action movies), because movement may seem a little blurred with LCD at times. Also, you'll want to remember that in order for you to get the best color out of your LCD, you have to sit right in front of it. LCD TVs also have a slightly shorter lifespan than DLPs, with only 45,000 to 60,000 hours compared to 75,000 hours or more. As far as price goes, LCD and DLP are still more expensive than Plasma, but like all things in time, their price has been coming down. And right now, DLP is slightly more expensive than LCD, but not by much. DLP, in our eyes, is the best investment, at least for the next few years. Click here for popular DLP TV units and prices.

LCD TV Review - Get the Best for Less

What is an LCD TV

An LCD (light crystal display) screen consist of a thin layer of liquid crystals sandwiched between two plates of glass. When an electric current is sent through these crystals an array of tiny multi-colored pixels light up and produce a TV picture.

Because they're so thin and light, LCD screens are now the most popular screens for computers, and as prices come down, are becoming the most popular screens for TVs.

LCD TV screens are 1/4" to 4" thick, and are 2" to 65" wide. LCD TVs can cost anywhere from $50 for a hand held model to $15,000 for a 65" widescreen TV.

LCD TV Features

* LCD TVs utilize digital technology which gives you a much sharper and clearer picture than a standard tube TV.

* LCD TV screens are thin and lightweight so they can be placed almost anywhere in a home or office, even hung on a wall.

* Most LCD TV screens are manufactured in widescreen format and are compatible with widescreen DVD'S and HD programming.

* LCD TVs have a flat screen so there's no picture distortion as there is with curved tube TVs.

* LCD TV screens have a life span of 50,000 to 80,000 hours, depending on the make and model of the LCD TV.

* LCD TVs don't suffer from screen "burn in" like tube TVs.

Getting the Best Price on an LCD TV

If you're in the market for an LCD TV, keep in mind that prices can vary widely between retailers. That's why I recommend checking out LCD TV models at a local electronics store, then checking prices online before you buy one.

Take a trip to our local Best Buy, Circuit City, or Wal-Mart to test various HD TV models. Watch the picture, test the controls, and ask the salesperson any questions you may have.

Then, when you've picked out a model you like, go online to see where you can get it at the best price.

I recently checked prices on a comparison shopping website for a Panasonic LCD TV and the price difference between retailers varied by more than $1,000. It's amazing what bargains you can find online.

The website I used to check prices also included buyer reviews so I also got honest feedback from people who had actually purchased the LCD TV model I was interested in (can click on the link below to visit this website).

Prices for LCD TVs start at $300 for a 19" TV, $900 for a 32" TV, and $2,000 for a 40" TV.

Conclusion

If you spend most of your evening hours watching television like I do, and you want a picture with near lifelike quality, then an HD TV set is what you're after.

How to Buy a Plasma, LCD or Rear Projection Television

How to buy a Flat Screen Television in 6 easy steps:

1.How much do you want to spend? Give yourself a price range and stick to it . For example if you are looking to spend no more than $3000 only look at televisions in that range. And remember you get what you pay for in the world of flat screen televisions. If you get a Plasma Display for under $2000 remember that it will not have a picture like a Plasma that sells for $4000. Here is a list of price ranges and screens available in those ranges : $1500 - $2500 : will get you a decent EDTV 42" Plasma made by a Top brand name, or a HDTV LCD in the 20" to 30" range, and a low end HDTV DLP or LCD projection

$2500 - 3500 : this is the price range that most 42" Plasmas, 30" - 37" LCD and 50" rear projection televisions fall into. Plan on getting a excellent display if you are willing to spend close to $3500 (all HDTV)

$3500 and up : this price range the Plasma,LCD and rear projection screen sizes start getting larger and you get top of the line brand names such as Sony, Hitachi and Panasonic in the larger screen sizes and more options available such as input and outputs.

2. Plasma vs LCD vs LCD or DLP rear projection

choose Plasma : if you want overall great color saturation, contrast and screen size

choose LCD : if you want your screen to double as a computer monitor or video game console such as XBOX 360 with HDTV, they look insane

choose DLP or LCD rear projection : if you are going for screen size and budget

3. Screen Size, Screen Size, Screen Size. This might be one of the most important factors to you when selecting a television because we all know bigger is always better. With the larger screen sizes especially 50" and up we are in the true HDTV range. Remember when shopping for the display always look at it at a local retailer such as a Circuit City or Best Buy even if you are going to purchase it online. Basically you want to see it for yourself. (Note: when viewing screen sizes in t he store always remember they will appear smaller than they actually are when you get them home, because they are all placed next to each other. The 42" actually look small when they are all hung next to each other at the stores but when you get it home you will see it is no joke.)

4. What connectivity options do you require. Basically what are you going to need to connect this television to your existing cable or satellite receiver or over the air antenna. Do you have a audio system you are going to want to connect? What connections do you desire such as HDMI? Component VIdeo? and so on. You should always look for the highest quality connections for video if you can. Video connection quality from highest to lowest is HDMI, component-video, S-Video, composite-video (white and yellow A/V cables) and antenna/cable inputs. Remember you will need enough inputs for everything you are going to connect to the television such as a DVD player, DVR, satellite, cable, computer and other devices. Also the cables that come with most displays or devices (if they even do) aren't of the greatest quality and I would suggest getting a high end cable such as those made by Monster Cables.

5. Picture Quality. I feel this is the most important deciding factor when purchasing a Plasma, LCD or rear projection TV. The only way to determine this is to actually compare displays side by side, read reviews and specifications. If you are going to compare displays at a store bring a DVD alone to use as a reference when judging between different displays.

6. Warranty and Service Contract. Make sure the display you are going to purchase has at least a 1 year warranty on parts and labor offered by the manufacturer and it would be a great idea to purchase a extended warranty and service contract especially on a Plasma display because if something does go wrong fixing the display will cost much more than just buying a new one. (note: if you are installing a display on a wall always have professional do it!)

Enjoy your new Television!

HDTV is Coming - For Better or Maybe Worse

America's TV stations currently broadcast their programs using analog signals. However, this will come to an end in on February 19, 2009 by which time all stations must have converted to digital signals.

The problem for many Americans is that their TVs cannot receive digital signals. In fact, it is estimated that there are more than 70 million TV sets that will become instantly obsolete when analog broadcasting ends.

How will this affect you?

If you subscribe to cable or satellite television, this change will probably have no effect on your televiewing. This is because satellite and cable broadcasters have more than four years to get ready for the changeover.

On the other hand, if you are one of about 20 million Americans who do not subscribe to either cable or satellite TV, you will have to do one of two things. First, you can buy an HDTV capable TV. The least expensive of these receivers currently sell for about $1,000 but prices are expected to drop substantially between now and 2009. Second, you can get a set-top converter box that will enable your analog TV set to receive digital signals.

What will these set-top boxes cost and where can you get one?

As of this writing, no one knows exactly what these converter boxes will cost and when they will be available. The good news is that the Federal Government has set aside about $1.5 billion dollars for vouchers that those who own only the outmoded analog TVs can use to buy the set-top converters. The vouchers will be for $40 and each household that have only analog TV receivers will be eligible to receive two.

So, get ready. HDTV is coming ? for better or maybe worse.

There's another HD technology you should know about. It's called HD Radio and it enables AM and FM radio stations to broadcast their programs digitally. These digital broadcasts provide listeners with radically improved audio quality, more radio channels through multicasting, and new data services. To learn more about this amazing new technology, just go my Web site, http://www.hd-radio-home.com, to get all the buzz.

From Regular Old Expensive Cable TV to Less Expensive and So Much Better DISH with 100 Hour DVR

I used to have cable TV and I thought that was pretty swell. But, then I experienced something TV like I have never imagined before. I was at a relatives house who showed me how he could pause live T.V., watch my favortie programs without the commercials, and record my shows automatically without any effort on my part.

My world was changed forever. You may be thinking that this is terrible and that T.V. watching should never be encouraged. That I should get out more and get more excercise. Well, let me tell you something. Since I have had the DISH with the DVR, I do! I watch less TV because I don't sit through commercials and I don't just turn on the tube sit around waiting for something good to come on. Instead I turn on the TV and go straight to my recorded food network shows, or recorded gardening shows.

That's all I like to watch, but I am rarely watching T.V. during the hours of the programs that I most like. That's the beauty of the DISH and the DVR that comes packaged with it. You may have heard the word TIVO used in place of DVR. Well, they are very similar machines that do essentially the same thing, but the DVR is much better and less expensive.

The DVR can record two programs at once and allow you to watch a 3rd program that you've recorded. The TIVO is inferior because you can only record one thing at a time and you have to be watching that program while your recording it. For less than the cost of cable, I get so much more with the DISH. If you have never experienced the DISH, ask someone who has it to tell you about it.

Free Satellite TV On PC

Technology is advancing so fast that now one can watch satellite TV or hear radio on a home PC. All you need is special hardware known as PCTV cards that are of two kinds. One kind needs to be installed in the PC while the other kind is an external box that plugs into the PC?s USB port.

There are cards that use the PC?s infrastructure to decode satellite signals and allow users to enjoy free-to-air digital television and radio programs. There are cards that have built-in processors that allow TV viewing in a separate window while the PC runs other programs. Both kinds of cards can be utilized to receive Broadband Internet via Satellite. Requests are made using a telephone line but data is received at 40MB per second via the satellite dish.

To view satellite TV on your PC you would require a minimum processor that is Pentium II 333 MHz, an operating system like Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, as well as hardware consisting of sound card, spare USB slot, and a CD Rom drive. If you are a computer geek you could in addition to the cards have a Windows media player, real player, or quick time player all of which will take you to the next level of viewership.

The options are many. The PC can be directly connected to a satellite dish by using a product like Hauppauge 3000 or through the Internet cable; or via the satellite box (run an aerial lead from the RF output socket of the Shy Digibox to the input aerial socket on a standard PC TV card or USB TV adapter). Direct TV and Dish TV both recommend using a connection via their proprietary satellite TV receiver box as ideal.

With a PC-TV-Radio one can simultaneously or alternately watch regular TV, a movie, or sports, and enjoy crystal clear music while writing, checking mail, telewebbing, or surfing the Internet. The options are astounding one can download and record favorite programs, record music, and be creative.

DVR DirecTV: TiVo Vs. VCR

The VCR has been around since 1971 and has served a very important role in our daily lives. When DVD players came on the scene, they offered great playback quality but lacked good recording support. This has kept people from throwing away their trusty old VCR but now there is a way to fill the gap. Digital Video recorders not only effectively fill the shoes of the average VCR, they go beyond what a traditional VCR is capable of doing. This article, ?DVR DirecTV: TiVo vs. VCR? will hopefully show you the advantages of having a DVR over a traditional VCR.

One of the most noticeable differences between the VCR and a TiVo Digital Video Recorder (DVR) is that a VCR relies on dated magnetic tape to store your programming. While it is very portable and widely used, this medium is not capable of storing the Digital quality we have become accustom to today. As if this wasn?t bad enough, people are usually forced to decrease this quality even more by recording at a slower speed so they do not run out of tape. A TiVo brand DVR can store at least 40 hours of crystal clear quality programming, depending on which model you buy. You can even upgrade your DVR to a higher capacity if you are a do it yourselfer.

Not only is the quality better with a DirecTV DVR, but it is more convenient. With a VCR you are forced to manually set the machine to record specific shows. With the TiVo DVR you can set it and forget it. Even to the point of automatically downloading the whole season of your favorite show.

Another important feature of DirecTV DVR?s is their ability to record more than one show at once. I don?t know about you, but I have noticed that all of the interesting shows come on at the same time. With a DVR that supports this feature, there is no more deciding between your two favorite shows which you want to record! Try doing that with a VCR and you will quickly see that it is quite impossible

You are also given the ability to pause, rewind or fast forward live TV if you use a TiVo. My favorite part of recording programs on a VCR is getting to fast forward through annoying commercials. With DVR you get to fast forward commercials any time you want! This feature alone is worth the price of the upgrade.

Most of the time things are updated just to be updated, but I hope you see in this case that upgrading to a DVR solution is a worth while decision. You probably will still keep your VCR around for awhile, just to be on the safe side, but at least you can enjoy the convenience of your TiVo now. Anything that takes care of boring, hard to remember, repetitive tasks defiantly makes your life easier. And anything that makes your life easier is worth its weight in Gold. However, you wont have to pay Gold for these features. You can get all of the benefits of DVR for around $5 a month extra on your Direct TV bill.

Wireless Satellite - It's Not Just For TV Anymore

As technology advanced forward, many of the things we've taken for granted for years are being reborn under the banner of wireless or wireless satellite Internet. Of course, we're talking about a lot more than just receiving the Internet from a satellite connection. Many other technologies have also obtained new life through the use of "sky birds."

Some of the most visible changes in technologies has been in communications and entertainment. Cellular telephones use satellite services to bounce signals literally around the world. Although cell phone service is typically within a 2 mile radius of a cellular tower, by using the power of stationary satellites, a signal or connection on a cell phone can be routed to wherever another cell tower can be found. This is especially good news for those people who tend to be in more remote areas.

Wireless satellite Internet is a connection to the web that's available anywhere the sky can be seen. Using a satellite to make the connection into the web holds the promise of all the web all the time, anytime. The always on no matter where you are can be a major benefit for many people. Satellite TV vs. Cable TV -- Which is Best?

The move is on. Last year millions of Americans switched from cable TV to satellite TV.

Why? When you compare satellite TV to cable TV you'll discover the main reasons are cost, picture quality, program choices, and customer satisfaction.

Let's check out the differences ...

Cable vs. Satellite TV Fees

<> Cable TV fees across the country average $39.99 per month. In our area the cost for cable TV is $37.30 a month for 64 channels, plus $10.95 a month to add digital channels. Installation in one room is $39.95, plus $9.95 for each additional room.

<> Satellite TV fees from Dish Network are $31.99 per month for 60 channels, while DirecTV charges $41.99 per month for 115 channels. Both satellite TV providers currently offer free satellite TV equipment and free installation in up to four rooms.

Cable vs. Satellite TV Programming

<> Cable TV in most areas offers almost as many channels as satellite TV, and is broadcast in analog (over-the-air) format. If you want to have digital picture and sound you'll have to pay an additional fee, usually $10 to $15 a month.

Satellite TV offers more channels than cable TV (more than 250 channels), and more HDTV (high definition TV) programming. All satellite TV channels are broadcast in digital format for the highest quality picture and sound.

Cable vs. Satellite TV Equipment

<> With cable you only need cable boxes that connect the incoming cable line to your televisions. There is usually no charge or rental fees for cable boxes, however, If you want a digital video recorder, you'll have to pay an extra fee.

<> With satellite TV you need a satellite TV dish and TV receivers. Both Dish Network and DirecTV offer that equipment, plus installation, for free. Dish Network will give you a DVR (digital video recording) receiver or an HDTV receiver at no charge, while DirecTV charges $49.99 for DVR receivers and $299 for HDTV receivers.

Cable and Satellite TV Reliability and Customer Satisfaction

<> Cable TV outages average 3% to 5% per year. J.D. Powers and Associates ranks cable companies as good to poor in customer satisfaction.

<> Satellite TV outages average about 1%. J.D. Power and Associates has ranked the two satellite TV providers -- Dish Network and DirecTV -- higher in customer satisfaction than any of the cable TV companies for the last five years

The Bottom Line

If you only watch a couple of shows a week, and you live in an area where you can't get over-the-air TV and cable TV costs less than $20 per month, then cable may be your best option.

If, on the other hand, you want the biggest variety of shows, movies, sports, and news for the least amount of money ... you want to watch your all your shows in digital video and sound ... and you want the option of watching them in HD format and recording them on a DVR receiver, then satellite TV is what you're looking for.

Satellite TV Trends - Watch Digital TV on Your PC

Is this the end of the TV receiver, as we know it?

Ever since the 1930s we have purchased and used standalone TV sets for entertainment and up to date information but now things are changing. We live in a world that is very different from what it was only a few years ago, a world where digital TV, Satellite TV, computers and the Internet are all around us. Today the computer is as common in the home as the TV set is. I know of many households that actually have more computers than they have TV sets.

We use computers routinely for gathering information and research. Only a few short years ago this was the role of television news and current affairs channels. The TV channels haven't gone away but we rely on them a lot less than we used to. It's often so much easier to reach for the Internet browser on your PC especially when you need the information right now.

So why do we need a standalone TV set?

That's a very good question. Until recently the computer that you might typically use in your home hasn't had the power or capacity to perform the same functions as your TV set but this is no longer the case. Even the most humble of modern notebook PC is now capable of receiving and playing digital TV from sources such as terrestrial, cable or satellite digital TV. You can even watch analogue TV transmissions until they are phased out.

How to watch satellite digital TV on your PC?

Not very long ago in the early days of PC TV it was necessary to install a TV capture card inside your computer in order to watch television broadcasts without using a standalone television. This was not a difficult task but it wasn't simple or elegant either. It also made it unsuitable for use with notebook PC's which limited the appeal somewhat. Notebooks were also less common and more expensive a few years ago so there was no incentive to develop such systems.

Along came cheap powerful notebook PC's and USB 2

You can now get good notebook PCs for prices comparable with television sets. They are equipped as standard with USB 2 interfaces which are fast enough to cope with a digital TV data stream from an external receiver. This means that modern desktop and notebook PCs are capable of transforming themselves into digital TV sets provided that you can find a source of digital TV data.

USB satellite TV

It turns out that there are many products available that are designed to receive and decode digital TV signals and deliver them to your PC through its USB 2 interface. Installation couldn't be simpler, just install some software and plug the device into your PC.

There are USB digital TV units available for terrestrial, cable and satellite TV so you should have plenty of choice. All these devices conform to the DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) standards in 3 basic versions. DVB-T for terrestrial TV, DVB-C for cable TV and DVB-S for satellite TV.

Disadvantages of using a USB digital TV adapter

Adding a digital television adapter to your PC to watch free-to-air broadcasts is a great idea but if you want to subscribe to any encrypted pay-for-view channels such as Sky in the UK you may be unlucky. At the time of writing the only way to watch these channels is through a set top box designed for the service.

Digital PC TV is the future

As computers become more and more like TV's the need for a standalone TV set will diminish and ultimately vanish. I don't know when this will happen but it might be sooner than you think.

Satellite TV Providers offer High-Speed Internet Connection

Both DirecTV and Dish TV recently announced they will bundle their Satellite TV service with high-speed Internet service via satellite through WildBlue Communications.

Cable television has been leading the way, bundling not only cable TV, but phone and high-speed Internet services. People are looking for two things when it comes to television and Internet connection ? price and service. Cable has been aggressively responding, and Satellite TV is starting to get the message.

WildBlue launched its high-speed Internet connection service a year ago and has 60,000 subscribers. Their monthly service ranges from $49.95 to $79.95, with download speeds of up to 1.5 megabits per second. Their one draw back is the $299 equipment charge.

Pricing is yet to be determined for Dish Network and DirecTV packages bundled with WildBlue services, but they will have to offer a smaller equipment charge, or no charge at all in order to be competitive.

Satellite TV companies have offered DSL Internet connection for some time. They attempted to market to people without cable access in rural and remote areas. But both DirecTV and Dish Network have had miserable sales due to uncompetitive prices. DirecTV charged $580 for installation alone. The only people who bought the services were those that had no other alternative for high-speed connection, but now local phone services are able to reach these customers with radio towers.

Bundled Services is the Future

Customers don?t want to deal with a myriad of companies. They demand more simplicity. They want to deal with a single company that is willing to discount multiple services.

Comcast, the largest cable provider in Colorado, offers packages starting at $112 for cable TV, Internet service at 6 megabits per second and phone service. According to Cindy Parsons, spokeswoman for Comcast Colorado:

"We are accustomed to competition and expect there will be a wide variety of promotions from our competitors."

Qwest Communications recently dropped the price of its bundled services. New customers can pay about $87 per month for local and long distance calling, 1.5-megabits Internet speeds and satellite TV service.

The two satellite TV powerhouses will have to offer similar bundled prices if they are going to remain competitive. And equally important is their Internet connection service will need to be reliable.

This new deal with WildBlue Communications will help Dish Network and DirecTV better compete with cable and telephone companies such as Comcast and Qwest. Consumers should benefit with alternative solutions and lower prices.

Satellite TV Providers - DISH Network vs. DIRECTV

If you are familiar with dishnetwork, when it comes to comparing Satellite TV providers, it is hard to determine which is the best choice between them because both their pricing and programming are very similar, including news channels, sports channels, movie channels, premium channels, foreign channels, etc.

With over 150 channels, the dish network offers a new dimension of entertainment with the best modern technology enabling digital sound and superior picture quality in comparison with cable TV. In the United States, the two major providers are Dish Network and DirecTV, covering the 50 states with slight differences depending on the lower end of the offer spectrum.

In pricing, the basic difference between these Satellite TV providers is minor and both include local channels where available. Dishnetwork rates may vary due to promotions applicable nationwide of in any given state, but also making a pricing difference in accordance to taxes, including extra where applicable.

Dish Network and DirecTV offer adequate parental control over what your kids are watching, but only DirecTV allows you to control your expenses in pay per view channels. Another advantage of the dishnetwork is the convenient Internet service, resulting in cheaper payments while staying connected online.

These Satellite TV providers offer a service beyond any expectations with a great value for your money, however DirecTV has been around since 1994, thus the reason why this company has the largest dishnetwork base in United States. In addition, some leagues and sport channels are only available through DirecTV due to previous exclusive negotiations, making superior their offer when it comes to satisfy sport channels addicts.

However, Dish Network has introduced recently the NHL Center Ice package and the NBA League Pass, broadening its sports coverage. On the other hand, comparing HDTV between Direct TV and Dish Network, this last one offers a better deal, as the dishnetwork is the pioneer in digitalizing sound and picture of the TV programming.

Currently, Dish Network has over 10 million Satellite TV consumers, and is the favorite of people with foreign origin, since they provide a large number of foreign programming and channels covering most languages worldwide, making them a great choice for general audiences, while sports fans always will have the best with DirecTV.

Both providers offer promotional packages, including special programming or discounts on premium channels, but also they offer free satellite TV equipment and installation to encourage subscriptions. Dish Network provides its own equipment, while DirecTV gives you the freedom of purchasing your dishnetwork equipment from them or anywhere else.

Natalie Aranda writes about computer and technology. In pricing, the basic difference between these Satellite TV providers is minor and both include local channels where available. Direct TV Dish Network or Cable Free Satellite Dish (satellite) Better Deal?

Today, Great TV whether it be Direct TV, Dish Network or the local cable company is as much of a household staple as the can opener. Watching your favorite TV shows or keeping up to date with the recent current events or weather can not only help you relax but also keep your family entertained. With so many options available where do you begin? Is there a difference in cost? Hopefully by the end of this article you will better know what to expect.

First you must decide what your requirements are. Do you watch sports? Do you need local channels? Do you live on a specific channel? If this is the case, write down the channels that interest you so you can keep this in mind when we compare services.

Next you must decide between the big two, Cable or Satellite (satalite). After comparing prices I found that satellite was actually considerably cheaper per month for more channels than my local cable company. My only concern with switching service was the reliably of a Satellite (satalite) Dish. This was probably due to multitude of negative commercials my local cable company has shown. Commercials that depict the reliability of satellite service equal to a ?your lucky if it ever works? service. Ironically, after several cable outages I checked into prices and found that the price difference was worth the plunge. To my surprise I have not lost reception yet! In my opinion, it seems like only the really really bad storms must block a noticeable amount of service and in those cases I am probably going to unplug my TV and head for cover anyway.

I have been very pleased with Dish Network so far so if you want to try it out you can go visit the links below. The only reason I chose Dish Network over Direct TV was a small difference in price and the package fit my taste just a little better. Most Satellite (satalite) services will offer a free dish or installation package if you have a decent amount of credit. If you don?t have credit yet or if it is tarnished, you may need to pay for your receiver. But the upside is it will usually be free if you keep your service for a while. You will usually get an amount back every bill as a refund and you can move your equipment from house to house if you decide to move because you paid for it!

Hope that helps you to make a more informed decision about your service provider.? Whether it be Direct TV, Dish Network or the local cable company.? If you need a site that has good prices on Dish Network Satellite Service and also Direct TV Packages, take a look at bigmouthtv.com.? They have several Free Dish Network offers from time to time that can save you some money.

Have fun and God bless.

101 Guides in Getting Your Dish Network Deals: Avoid Common Online Satellite TV Scams!

Recent years we have seen an explosion of people choosing satellite over cable or satellite TV. Consumer surveys and polls show some common reasons being superior picture quality, larger selection of channels and programs, increased availability, good customer service and the continuing drop in price. As Dish Network stands as one of the most popular satellite TV providers in the states, examining on their deals is a must for one who is looking for some satellite TV deals.

1. Who is Dish Network anyway?

Owned by Echostar Communication Cooperation, Dish Network was licensed in March 1996 and currently dish up to 11 million satellite TV customers. With up to 256 TV channels served in three major packages (Dish Network All American Top 60s, 120s, and 180s), Dish Network provides a wide programming selection to the subscribers.

2. Are Dish Network deals offering free satellite TV systems for real?

Yes, you do can get free Dish Network satellite TV systems, provided that you must be a first time customer and you MUST commit to at least one-year service contract with Dish Network. The basic free satellite TV systems includes up to 4 receivers (common model: Dish 311) with remote controls, Dish Network access card, and a satellite dish to be installed facing the north. Some dealers will give out extra incentive gifts such as DVR system, DVD player, home theater sets and free movie channels for certain periods. Thus, picking up the right Dish Network dealer is important. We highly recommend ordering Dish Network deals online, as they are the one who can afford the best bargains for you.

3. Why get Dish Network from online dealers?

Just a simple reason: Bargains. As Dish Network online dealer?s operating cost is extremely low compared to brick and mortar satellite TV stores, online Dish Network dealers manage to focus their model in providing the cheapest deals as well as building up strong customer support network.

4. Do I need to install the dish my self?

No, but you can if you want to. Standard Dish Network installation is free of charge, so why take the hassles?

5. What I need to do to get a Dish Network system?

To order Dish Network services, you need to approach Dish Network dealers to select the number of satellite systems, programming packages, HD upgrading, DVR upgrading, and other supplementary deals. Shipping and installation will be done very soon after the order is placed.

A cost of $50 will be charged as deposit when you place your order. This fees will then credited back to your Dish Network monthly bills thus starting up Dish Network services basically is free.

6. So how do they make money?

Pretty simple: the subscription fees. To get your free Dish Network satellite TV, you have to commit to a one-year subscription contract when you get into Dish Network. Infact, this is the current trend of the satellite TV buisness -- both Dish Network and DirecTV are making money through the subscription fees in long term.

7. What are the different methods for paying my Dish Network bill?

One-time Credit Card Payments

You can make secure online payments using Dish Network Customer Support Center. This FREE service works with any major credit or debit card and posts to your account immediately.

You can also make payments by calling Dish Network Automated Phone System at 1-800-333-3474 and follow the voice prompts. If you have a 3900, 4900, 111, 301, 311, 322, or DVR501/508/510 receiver, you may also make a payment through Dish Home (channel 100). If services are interrupted, the services will be restored usually within 5-10 minutes once a payment is made.

Credit Card Auto-pay (CCA)

This feature deducts your monthly charges from your credit or debit card on the due date. You may choose to discontinue paper bills or continue to receive the statements (You will not need to send a payment should you choose to continue receiving these statements.). Please be sure to pay the current balance when you sign up. As CCA will take one full billing cycle to take effect, this will help prevent a late fee from being charged.

8. What is the best Dish Network setup?

2-rooms set up; 3-rooms set up; HDTV set up ? getting confused?

The best hardware set up really depends on your visualize and your location. Most people will be perfectly served by the multi-room systems right now. All the necessary equipment for up to 4 rooms, plus the installation, plus Digital Video Recorders are yours for the taking, FREE.

In this package, with just $50 of start up fees (which they will credit back your account for the same amount), you are ready to enjoy your Dish Network. As mention before, these satellite TVs equipments are given life time warranty; you won't have to worry about receivers or dishes breaking down.

Same thing if you want to receive Dish Network HD programs. Until recently you had to buy special equipment (known as the Superdish) to receive high definition signals. Now you don't even have to -- Regular receivers (those that are freely given) like the HD-811 and the HD-DVR 921, can get all HD content.

If you want to get international programming - the strong set of Dish Network - you will have to buy an additional dish antenna at the cost of $99 (at the time of writing).

9. How does Dish Network scores when compare to DirecTV?

Interestingly, the satellite system services offered by both DIRECTV and DISH Network are practically interchangeable -- both offer more than 200 program channels, integrated digital video recording (DVR) capabilities, high definition TV (HDTV) capabilities, stunning picture and sound quality and award-winning 24-hour customer service departments.

Where they differ is in pricing and programming. Dish Network packages are a little more cheaper, however DirecTV covers more sports channels. Programming wise, Dish Network offers more International and movie channels.

10. How about the Internet scams?

Unfortunately, with any hot product on Internet come the scammers.

Online ordering satellite TV deals sounds great. However, consumers should also aware that there are risks hidden when ordering your satellite TV deals online: Fraudulent websites.

There are hundreds or even thousands of scammers in the satellite TV online business, claiming to offer the best satellite dish deals and promotions. Their websites might look professional to lure unsuspecting customers. Most of these scams offer a fake promise on their deals. Extremely low monthly subscription rates, next-day installation, and unlimited number of free satellite systems are some of the common promotion terms. But once a customer signs up they find hidden activation fees, high shipping costs for free extras, installation dates continuously missed or pushed back, as well as outrageous cancellation fees.

Hundreds of "Satellite TV" websites have popped up, Buyers should always beware of all these scammers and do not fall into their traps. Satellite TV deals can be a huge bargains or a scary nightmare and it all depends on the satellite TV retailers that you pick.

If you were scared off by the statements above, DON?T! Although there are a lot of satellite TV scams over the Internet, there are still lots of bargains to be grabbed! Just beware when you place your Dish Network order, choose ONLY reputable Dish Network dealers to assure your spending are used safe.

Some basic questions to ask when selecting reliable dealers are:

Are they in business for more than 1 year?

Are the dealer certified by Dish Network official?

Is there any customer service available via phone, chat or email?

Is your deal 100% guaranteed? (Full refund if installation fails)

3 Things To Consider When Comparing DirecTV vs Dish Network

Trying to compare DirecTV vs Dish Network can be hectic. Both of the major satellite providers offer a huge variety of channels to keep you still on the sofa for the whole year. So which one is better? Should price be your only concern?

Here is the top 3 things that you must consider when choosing one satellite provider over the other:

DirecTV offers exclusive sports channels
Dish Network offers the largest selection of international programming
DirecTV offers a dual tuner digital video recorder (DVR)

Are you into sports? DirecTV offers exclusive sports programming that you can't get anywhere else. From football to boxing, you'll be able to fill your sports agenda for the whole year. Packed with exclusive pay-per-view (PPV) sports channels, you'll be able to catch events that you can't find anywhere else.

Do you watch channels in another language besides English? Dish Network provides a huge selection of international channels. So if you would like to get channels in Spanish, French, Japanese, Tagalog, Korean, or Mandarin (just to name a few), Dish Network can fit your needs. Dish Network also carries the largest selection of programming in middle eastern languages.

However, if you're main focus is Cantonese, DirecTV does have the popular Jade Network. DirecTV also offers TFC, which is the most popular Tagalog programming.

Have you ever thought about watching television efficiently? You can with a digital video recorder (DVR)! These units will allow to skip time wasting commercials. You can also record your favorite shows and watch them at a time that's most convenient for you!

However, DirecTV allows you to squeeze in more TV watching to your schedule. While Dish Network has it's own DVR, DirecTV overpowers its competition by providing a dual tuner digital video recorder. Having a dual tuner DVR will allow you to record a program and watch another at the same time. If you don't have a dual tuner DVR, your only option is to watch what you're recording.

In conclusion, if you're the type of person that wants to catch all of the cool sporting events, DirecTV may be for you. DirecTV goes beyond your local network television and even ESPN.

If you're looking for international programming, make sure that you take a look at the language of preference. Although Dish Network is the leader in international channels, DirecTV does offer some premium international channels that are better for other languages.

If your main focus is to efficiently watch tv at your convenience, DirecTV's DVR is one of the best in the market. You'll be able to pack more TV watching into your schedule.

So while you compare DirecTV vs Dish Network, your priorities should come first. You can save money purchasing one over the other, but you might be upset to find that your needs aren't being met. After you think about these 3 things that you must consider, you should have a clearer picture of what suits you the best.

5 Reasons To Get ESPN Game Plan through Dish Network

Going to a college football game is an exciting time to be among a crowd of fans rooting for your team. However, not all games will be graced with the perfect weather for football. Not all games will be nationally televised. And not all times will you be down to go to a football game. For those reasons, you might opt to stay at home and watch the game on television.

That is when ESPN Game Plan comes to the rescue. With ESPN Game Plan, you will get access to games all over the country. Here are five reasons to get ESPN Game Plan for your home entertainment.

1. You live in North Dakota and your alma mater, UCLA is playing the University of Washington. Hundreds of college football teams play every Saturday and the odds of your former school playing on national television are slim. In-state rivals and top-ranked match-ups are the likely candidates for national airtime. With ESPN Game Plan, you are guaranteed 100 games that aren?t offered locally and chances are, your alma mater is one of them.

2. Traveling can be costly. If you live miles away from your favorite college football team, it may not be reasonable to travel every Saturday to be at the game. Transportation, food and hotel accommodations can add up quickly. Watching your favorite team through ESPN Game Plan will be the better alternative when it comes to saving your money.

3. Game preparations are time consuming. You are among the thousands of fans who will rush to get to the game and among a hoard of people hurrying home to avoid the congestion. Traffic to and from the game can add stress that you could do without. You?ll find your time valuable once you realize how much you could put toward other things like doing chores around the house or taking a much-needed nap.

4. Inclement weather? No worries for you! You remember those days when you stood through it all, in the rain, or in the snow while watching your team play. Now watching from home, you just observe the bundled up coaches on the sidelines or the crowd of umbrellas in the stands. You are grateful that you don?t have to endure the inclement weather and take comfort of watching the game indoors.

5. You can lounge on Saturday. Are there days when you just feel like being inside, staying in your pajamas and just lounging? If there were any day to do this, it would be Saturday, the day dedicated to college football. If you don?t want to watch alone, invite your close family and friends for a game party with food, fun and laughter. Take advantage of this downtime to relax inside and enjoy the game from home!

Apparently, with these free satellite TV deals, Dish Network and DirecTV are the primary competition of cable TV service in United States. These two satellite TV providers actually had blown up a "cut cable wave" in some of the states in U.S.

Now, lets have a closer look on these two famous free satellite TV providers: Dish Network and DirecTV.

DirecTV

DirecTV is a direct broadcast satellite (DBS) service that broadcasts digital satellite television and audio to households in the United States.Owned by DirecTV Group, a subsidiary of News Corporation's Fox Entertainment Group, DirecTV was launched in 1994 and was the first high-powered DBS service in the world.

DirecTV typically uses smaller 18-inch satellite dishes to receive its signals. Slightly larger, 18 x 24-inch oval antennas to access multi-satellites are becoming more common as DirecTV (as well as other DBS services) are attempting to squeeze more programming onto their growing systems, particularly local television network affiliates stations as well as hybrid systems that also receive broadband satellite Internet service.

In 1998 DirecTV acquired its partner, USSB for $1.3 billion. In 1999 DirecTV acquired PrimeStar for $1.83 billion. In 2003, a merger with EchoStar, owner of DISH Network, fell through. On December 22, 2003, controlling interest in Hughes Electronics was sold by General Motors to News Corporation.

DirecTV is often abbreviated as "DTV". However, DTV has recently been used to refer to digital television, giving rise to the unofficial acronym "D".

DirecTV receivers (television set-top boxes) were originally referred to as "Digital Satellite Service", or DSS, so that services being broadcast by both DirecTV and USSB would appear to be received by generic equipment. In 1998, after the acquisition of USSB, an American court ruled that the term "DSS" was an already trademarked term that could not be used by DirecTV.

DirecTV offers standard television including local channels in most markets. Local channels are transmitted over terrestrial optical fiber networks to the Castle Rock Broadcast Center, in Castle Rock, Colorado, where they are uplinked.

DirecTV also offers high definition (HDTV); and a digital video recorder (DVR) service in partnership with TiVo. It has now more than 12 million customers in the US and 1.5 million in Latin America. 2002 revenues were USD 8.9 billion.

Dish Network

So, how about the Dish Network?

The Dish Network satellite TV is a direct broadcast satellite (DBS) service that broadcasts digital satellite television and audio to households in the United States. Owned by Echostar, Dish Network was launched in March, 1996 and is DirecTV's primary competitor in the United States.

Dish Network originally used an 18-inch satellite dish called DISH 300 which allowed subscribers to receive a signal from one satellite location. Nowadays, Dish Network uses 20-inch satellite dishes called DISH 500, which allows subscribers to receive satellite TV signals from two satellite locations simultaneously. Slightly larger, 36"x20" dishes (called SuperDISH) are being introduced with capability to receive satellite signals from three satellite locations simultaneously.

Both DISH 500 and SuperDISH are becoming more common as Dish Network (as well as other DBS services) are attempting to squeeze more programming onto their growing systems, particularly local American television network affiliates stations, and foreign programming.

In 2003, Dish Network began providing in-flight satellite TV service to the U.S. airline Song. In 2004, selected music channels from Sirius satellite radio were added to DISH Network's lineup of audio-only channels. Dish Network is also partnered with Starband to deliver broadband satellite Internet service along with it's television service.

An Introduction to Satellite TV in the United States

Satellite television is a fairly recent technology that allows a household to receive television content via transmission from a communications satellite. The essential components are the satellite itself ? a multimillion-dollar expenditure for the broadcast company ? and the home satellite dish, something the average consumer can acquire for about fifty dollars, or even receive for free as part of their service subscription package.

Why bounce information off of a satellite? Traditional broadcast stations are limited by the curvature of the earth and by obstacles that interfere with ?line of sight? reception, causing lack of signal or distortion. Satellite TV overcomes those obstacles with ease.

In the early days of the technology, people used huge, motorized backyard dishes to chase satellites across the sky and pull in free programming, but this dropped off sharply when providers began to encrypt their signals. Now there are several ?direct broadcast satellite? (DBS) or ?Direct-To-Home? providers that make it easy for the average consumer to use a small stationary satellite dish to receive subscription programming from satellites which use geosynchronous orbits to remain in one place in the sky, relative to the Earth.

These satellite TV companies provide a high-quality digital signal carrying both national ?turnaround channels? -- including popular pay channels like HBO and Showtime and free content like Lifetime, MTV, and ESPN ? as well as local affiliates for networks like ABC or PBS. These two types of programming are compressed, encrypted, and then aimed at the satellites from separate uplink centers on the ground.

The most popular direct broadcast satellite providers in the United States are the Dish Network and DirecTV. They provide a parabolic receiving dish, which focuses the incoming signal onto a ?feedhorn?, which then passes it on to a ?low noise blockdown converter?, which filters out unwanted noise. The signal then gets passed to the satellite receiver inside the house, which decrypts the digital signal, converts it to an analog or HDTV signal, and keeps track of the usage of pay-per-view programs

The receiver only allows the viewing of one channel at a time; to watch or record other channels requires additional receivers. However, the receivers are highly customizable and often include the popular ?digital video recorder? technology which allows digital recording, rewinding and pausing during live programming.

Satellite TV is competing with high-definition cable television, which is sure to keep the costs down even as the technology continues to improve.

American Satellite and Entertainment

The History
American Satellite and Entertainment Inc. has been founded in 1996, in the years where satellites had already been introduced, yet had plenty of aspects that needed to be developed and improved. The market was existent, yet new; it was the perfect time for a new company to enter this field, and wage war on other retailers. The area of expertise of American Satellite ranges from satellites, broadcasts, DirectTV, Satellite Internet as well as HDTV and (according to recent press releases issued by American Satellite) even GPS navigational systems. With more than 4,000 licensed and trained installers who are in turn available throughout 39 states, American Satellite has become quite a prominent giant of the satellite business. Whether they are number one or the best of the bests is not important, but we should rather focus on how reliable the service is.

Price Matching

A point that surfaces quite often when discussing about companies, retailers and everyday stores is the following: ?Will business X personally guarantee the lowest price available on the market?? The answer to this question is: ?Yes, American Satellite does match the lowest available price.? However, you should be aware that this is not as simple as walking in the store or calling them and asking them to match a price that you have seen somewhere else. American Satellites reserve the right to limit quantities or dates if the other retailer has a similar police; furthermore, American Satellite?s price matching is not valid if you found a lower price that was due to a bonus offer (nor any kind of different special offers), rebates or even typographical error. What this means is that American Satellite will only match the everyday normal price of another retailer, nothing more, nothing less.

Exclusive Deals

As of June 2006, American Satellite and Entertainment Inc. has signed a deal with another giant, which is none other than Amazon.com. The deal in question allows Amazon.com to be the exclusive online dealer for DirectTV systems. This is quite a good deal for us, the average customer as Amazon.com does have quite a good reputation toward their customers (which are estimated to be at roughly 50 million buyers who bought a single item or more.) The joint work of Amazon.com and American Satellite will undoubtedly please many, and should not be looked as a bad move.

Reward Program

With the HDTV market blooming; it is quite understandable that the battle of supremacy, the battle for the number one spot in HDTV and cable retailer is still fierce and ongoing. American Satellite has thought of a clever and overall very simplistic way of attracting even more customers; if you fill out and send a referral form to a friend, family member or neighbor, and in turn, they buy and activate their DirectTV system, you will receive 75 dollars. It is quite an easy stunt, but you can be assured that it encouraged people to talk about the service. As for the fine prints, you will only receive your $75 via checks (which take about 8 to 10 weeks to arrive) and will also be declared void if they are not cashed in the following 6 months. Obviously, you are also required to be an already existent owner of a DirectTV system via American Satellite. It is also good to mention that the offer does not limit you to a set number of referrals, as you can refer as many people as you can.

Basic Information on Cable Descramblers

A cable descrambler is allowing you to view pay-per-view and premium channels. It is capable of restoring the picture and sound of a scrambled channel.

Cable descramblers are legal products. Anyone is free to purchase descramblers, converters or cable equipment, provided they let the cable TV company know that they are using their signal.

There is a wide variety of cable descramblers available for sale on the market. A cable descrambler may cost between 55 dollars and 450 dollars, depending on its quality feature and amount of ?service? provided. If you don?t want to spend a large amount of money on a cable descrambler, you may buy one from cable TV companies that are renewing their equipment. But purchasing this bargain cable descrambler will not necessarily mean that you will receive all channels available, as it may not be compatible with your cable network. Therefore, our advice is for you to buy an up-to-date cable descrambler from your cable TV company. In this way you will benefit from the latest technology at a reasonable price, as cable TV companies usually have different price offers for different customer budgets.

If you decide to still buy a cable descrambler off the market, be careful what you are buying. Don?t confuse cable descramblers for converters. A converter is an electronic tuning device that ?changes? all channels broadcasted by the cable company and outputs it into an RF signal on your TV set. It basically makes your TV set get the channels even if your TV is not the cable ready type. A converter will not be able to descrambler premium channels that have been previously encoded. In order to view these pay-per-view channels, you definitely need to use a cable descrambler. And you need it even if you possess a cable ready TV set.

You should know that a certain product type - combination converter/descrambler is also available for sale on the market. This is a device that is also descrambling pay-per-view or premium channels. It encloses both a converter and a cable descrambler and it transfers the signal directly to your TV set. You can most commonly purchase it from your local cable TV company.

In conclusion, cable descramblers are those magic little boxes that are giving you the happy chance of watching HBO (and many other channels your wife shouldn?t know of!).
